Arrived on a Monday in December around 5pm. The selection in the Emerald Aisle was just okay. They had multiple minivans, a few Toyota Corollas and two small SUVs. The ease of the checkout was great. But I thought the selection on the Emerald Aisle was a little weak. At the other airports the Emerald Aisle seemed to have more or a selection to choose from.
renting a car from National was the easier I have ever experienced. The whole process was hassle free. I reserved a luxury rental and when I arrived I literally walked in bypass the counter a nice attendant told me to pick any car I picked my vehicle the keys were already in it and I drove to the gate then checked out on 2 minutes and was on my way. It was that easy. No long lines, No attitudes, No ridiculous fees the price was exactly the price quoted when I booked it online.
I had made reservations through my Emerald Club membership for a car knowing that we would be arriving late at night, and wanting the simplicity of just grabbing a car and going. When we arrived, the only two cars on the entire lot were a 12 passenger van and a huge Suburban. Since there were only 3 of us, there was no way we wanted those vehicles, so I indicated that we would go elsewhere for a small car. The manager was called since they obviously wanted to keep my business, and she ran over to another dealer (clearly associated with National), and got us a small car. While it was the size we wanted, it came with no identification, just a single key. Since it was almost midnight, we just took the car and left, without realizing that it had some damage to the rear bumper. The car was definitely below the standard I am used to with National (I had just rented earlier in the week, and had been very pleased). It almost felt like someone's personal vehicle. When we returned the car 7 days later, the person receiving it noticed the rear bumper issue. I explained the sequence of events, and nothing more was said. If I get some damage claim, I will be really mad! I was very disappointed that I paid as much as I did for the convenience of picking out my own car, and not being able to do so. I do not blame the manager, as she really tried to help, but since I had reserved a car weeks in advance, I do think that National should have had one ready.
Always great service from National. Love the "pick your own vehicle" strategy as it gives renters an option on the size and type of vehicle they rent. Always great service at the BWI location.
